Paramount Global has paid President Donald Trump $16 million to settle his lawsuit accusing CBS News’s “60 Minutes” of deceptively editing a 2024 interview with former Vice President Kamala Harris, according to a court filing and Trump’s statement on Tuesday. Trump added that he anticipates receiving an additional $20 million in advertising, public-service announcements or similar airtime from Skydance Media, which is pursuing an $8.4 billion acquisition of Paramount, though that arrangement has not been confirmed by the studio. The payment ends litigation in which Trump had sought as much as $20 billion in damages. A mediator initially proposed a $20 million settlement that would have directed $17 million to Trump’s presidential foundation, and on 30 June the parties told a Texas federal judge they were in “good-faith, advanced” talks and requested a stay of proceedings. Paramount has maintained the suit was “completely without merit.” In comments reported by Variety, the company said the agreement contains no commitment for advertising or PSAs, and people familiar with Skydance’s position said no side deal exists. Neither company issued a fresh statement on Tuesday beyond confirming dismissal of the case. The settlement is drawing scrutiny in Washington because it coincides with the FCC’s review of the Skydance-Paramount merger. Senator Elizabeth Warren has asked Skydance to clarify whether any extra benefits were promised to Trump, saying the president’s claim of a $20 million advertising add-on “reeks of corruption.”
