Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill on Thursday sued Roblox Corp. in Livingston Parish District Court, accusing the popular gaming platform of enabling the distribution of child sexual-abuse material and failing to implement basic safeguards to protect minors. The complaint calls Roblox “a breeding ground for sex predators” and alleges the company has put growth and revenue ahead of child safety. Prosecutors cite multiple incidents, including a July arrest in which a suspect allegedly used voice-altering technology on Roblox to lure minors, and contend the platform lacks effective age verification and allows adults unfettered contact with children. Louisiana seeks restitution, civil penalties and a court order compelling Roblox to introduce stronger protections, along with other damages and attorneys’ fees. The action intensifies scrutiny of Roblox’s safety practices just days after the company banned several self-styled “vigilante” predator hunters, including YouTuber Schlep, saying their tactics—impersonating minors and steering users to outside apps—violated platform rules and could increase risk to children. Roblox has urged users to report abuse through official channels and said accounts that flout its policies will be removed. Roblox, which reports 111.8 million daily active users and submits tens of thousands of exploitation reports annually to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, did not immediately comment on the Louisiana lawsuit. The case adds fresh legal pressure as the company faces mounting criticism from lawmakers and parents over how it moderates a service heavily used by pre-teen gamers.
