Kylian Mbappé will meet Paris Saint-Germain on the field for the first time since his departure for Real Madrid when the sides contest Wednesday’s Club World Cup semi-final in East Rutherford, New Jersey. The match gives the France captain an immediate chance to eliminate the club he left 12 months ago after seven seasons in Paris. The sporting reunion is set against an unfinished financial dispute. Mbappé is pursuing PSG in a French labour court for about €55 million in unpaid wages and bonuses. The Ligue 1 champions maintain the forward still owes them roughly €24 million, saying he had agreed to forgo part of his loyalty and renewal payments if he left on a free transfer. Earlier this week the 26-year-old withdrew a separate criminal complaint alleging moral harassment, signalling a partial de-escalation, but the civil claim remains active. Relations soured after PSG tried to extend Mbappé in 2022 with a three-year package valued at €535.5 million gross—an agreement the player only partially fulfilled before opting not to trigger the optional final season. Talks to settle the outstanding sums have stalled, leaving the two sides to balance legal manoeuvres with the immediate prize of a place in Sunday’s final.
