FIFA’s disciplinary committee has handed Paris Saint-Germain defenders Lucas Hernandez and Willian Pacho two-match suspensions, ruling both players out of the remainder of the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup. The sanctions follow straight red cards shown in PSG’s 2–0 quarter-final victory over Bayern Munich on 5 July. Hernandez was sent off in stoppage time for elbowing Raphaël Guerreiro, while Pacho had been dismissed minutes earlier for a high, studs-up challenge on Leon Goretzka. Citing Article 14(1)(e) of its disciplinary code, FIFA deemed the fouls sufficiently serious to extend the automatic one-game ban. With the ruling, the French champions will be without two first-choice centre-backs for Wednesday’s semifinal against Real Madrid at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey and, if they advance, for the final. PSG said both players have left the squad’s U.S. camp and returned to Paris. Real Madrid will also be short in defence, as centre-back Dean Huijsen received a one-match suspension for his late red card in the quarter-final win over Borussia Dortmund. He would be eligible to return for the final should Madrid defeat PSG.
