AguilaTrades, a prominent cryptocurrency trader, has experienced a series of losses while shorting and longing Ethereum (ETH) over recent days. Initially, AguilaTrades placed a short order of 29,000 ETH valued at approximately $122.4 million between $4,200 and $4,240 but quickly closed a 26,187 ETH short position with a loss of $1.86 million within 10 minutes. Despite multiple attempts to short ETH with 15x leverage, including positions of 30,001 ETH ($128.45 million) and 5,000 ETH at $4,684.59, the trader incurred cumulative losses exceeding $3.7 million over three days. After three unsuccessful short positions, AguilaTrades shifted to long positions, opening a 10,000 ETH long at $4,318.12 and later increasing to 15,000 ETH valued at about $66 million, benefiting from ETH prices rising above $4,400. Concurrently, AguilaTrades took a 40x leveraged short position on Bitcoin (BTC), holding 50 BTC worth $60.11 million at an entry price of $119,484.8, though this position showed a floating loss of $420,000. However, a market crash led to the liquidation of AguilaTrades' 21,050 ETH long position valued at nearly $100 million, resulting in a loss of $4.68 million. Subsequent liquidations further reduced the trader's account balance to approximately $187,000, with total losses surpassing $37 million. Despite these setbacks, AguilaTrades continued to open new ETH long positions with remaining capital. Separately, an Ethereum Foundation-linked wallet sold 7,294 ETH worth $33.25 million over three days at an average price of $4,558, having previously acquired 33,678 ETH at a much lower price in 2022. Another large holder recently sold 5,299.5 ETH for about $23.6 million, realizing profits of $11.84 million after holding for over six months.
