U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) have intensified efforts to arrest criminal illegal immigrants, resulting in the detention of over 59,000 individuals in ICE custody. Acting ICE Director Todd Lyons reported that more than 3,500 members of the TdA gang have been arrested. Recent operations targeted individuals described by DHS as "The Worst of the Worst," including pedophiles, fentanyl traffickers, and suspects charged with homicide by vehicle, sexual assault of a child, and lewd acts. In Texas alone, federal authorities apprehended over 350 gang members with approximately 1,700 criminal convictions, many of whom entered the U.S. illegally over 1,400 times. Additionally, 26 fugitives from Mexico wanted for serious crimes such as drug trafficking, kidnapping, firearms offenses, human smuggling, and murder have been taken into custody. ICE has increased its arrest rate to roughly 930 per day, reflecting a broader crackdown on violent gang members, murderers, and sex offenders who have entered the country through government programs offering pathways to residency or citizenship for illegal immigrants under 21 claiming abuse or neglect.
