U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement said its Houston field office arrested 356 undocumented gang members during the first six months of President Donald Trump’s second term, marking the agency’s largest such sweep in the region since record-keeping began. The total represents a 375% jump from the 75 gang-related arrests logged in the Houston area during the first half of the Biden administration, according to Department of Homeland Security data. The detainees, tied to more than 40 criminal organizations—including 39 members of MS-13, 25 from Tren de Aragua, six Latin Kings, 159 Paisas and 26 Tango Blast—have a combined 1,685 criminal convictions ranging from murder and child sex crimes to arson and theft. One individual had illegally re-entered the United States 40 times. Homeland Security Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin credited the increase to what she called an aggressive mandate to target “the worst of the worst” and said the arrests underscore the administration’s commitment to dismantling transnational gangs. ICE officials added that several of those detained have already been deported, with repeat offenders facing federal prosecution for illegal re-entry.
