Two Mexican brothers, Carlos and Alejandro, who were detained at the Everglades migrant detention center in Florida, known as "Alligator Alcatraz," have been released and returned to Mexico, according to the Mexican Foreign Ministry. The release was facilitated by a strong support network and consular assistance. Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum confirmed that at least 30 Mexican migrants remain detained at the Alligator Alcatraz facility, where the Mexican consul in Miami, Rutilio Escandón, has visited and is providing support. The Mexican government continues to monitor the situation of other Central American detainees, including Guatemalans, with consular staff engaging with those still held at the center. Separately, Banxico reported that remittance inflows to Mexican families totaled $5.201 billion in June 2025, marking a 16.2% decline compared to the same month in 2024, the largest year-over-year drop on record for June. This decrease coincides with intensified anti-immigrant operations in the United States. Additionally, a hunger strike has been reported at the Alligator Alcatraz detention center, with detainee Pedro Hernández hospitalized but continuing to refuse food, demanding dignified treatment. Meanwhile, the Mexican Consul General in Los Angeles noted an approximate 80% reduction in migrant arrests in that city over recent weeks.

Hunger strike in Alligator Alcatraz. One of them, Pedro Hernández, was hospitalized and still refuses food until they are treated with dignity. Let's just deport Pedro and he can have dignity in his home country. https://t.co/R6MVYPtNSL
