Mexico Launches Juan Ramón de la Fuente’s Mi Consulado Digital Model With Domestic Goods Import Simplification

The Mexican government has launched a new consular service model aimed at simplifying and digitizing procedures for Mexicans living abroad, particularly in the United States. Announced by Foreign Secretary Juan Ramón de la Fuente, the initiative introduces a single-window system called “Mi Consulado” that enables Mexican nationals to complete various consular procedures digitally, free of charge, and without intermediaries. The new model establishes clear steps for addressing the needs of Mexican citizens overseas, enhancing accessibility and efficiency. Additionally, José ‘Pepe’ Merino, head of the Digital Transformation Agency, highlighted the simplification of the domestic goods import process, allowing Mexicans in the U.S. to more easily bring their belongings back to Mexico. The reforms emphasize a proactive role for consulates in educating the Mexican community on compliance to avoid potential legal issues.
