Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo announced that a bilateral security agreement with the United States is "practically closed" and expected to be signed next week. The pact aims to enhance cooperation in combating drug trafficking and violence, emphasizing respect for Mexico's sovereignty and mutual responsibility. Sheinbaum highlighted the need for a symmetrical, binational approach to drug enforcement, criticizing the lack of sufficient investigation into drug consumption, money laundering, and corruption in the U.S. Her administration also supports security efforts across all Mexican states regardless of political affiliation, coordinating with federal entities to reduce violence. Additionally, Sheinbaum addressed the issue of medication shortages, noting that 96% of medicines have been compared and there is adequate supply of oncological drugs, although three specific medications have experienced supply problems. The agreement with the U.S. could address some of former President Donald Trump’s concerns and potentially pave the way for broader cooperation, including trade.
Mexico and the US are closing in on a deal to combat drug trafficking and violence, a pact that could quell some of President Donald Trump’s chief concerns with his southern neighbor and lead to a wider agreement covering trade. https://t.co/j4SUjp3O56
