Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum has publicly condemned statements made by Ovidio Guzmán's lawyer in the United States, describing them as "disrespectful" to the presidential office and denying any complicity between her government and organized crime groups. Concurrently, Sheinbaum's administration is preparing legal action in the United States regarding the death of Jaime Alanís García, a Mexican migrant who died during an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raid in Ventura County, California. The government considers the death "unacceptable" and is analyzing the possibility of filing a formal complaint. Additionally, Sheinbaum has confirmed that her government has filed a lawsuit in Mexico against Jeffrey Lichtman, the lawyer representing Ovidio Guzmán's sons. She has also addressed accusations involving Adán Augusto López and former Tabasco Secretary of Security Hernán Bermúdez Requena, affirming that neither her administration nor the Attorney General's Office (FGR) will protect anyone implicated in criminal activities. Sheinbaum emphasized the importance of evidence before assigning guilt and rejected what she called "media lynching" in these cases. The investigation into Bermúdez, who is currently a fugitive, has been supported by the federal government since October 2024, with a complete investigation file submitted by February 2025. Security official Omar García Harfuch noted that local media reports had already indicated possible links between Bermúdez and organized crime.
