Tigres UANL has completed the signing of Argentine forward Ángel Correa from Atlético Madrid, the clubs announced on 9 July 2025. Both sides released coordinated statements confirming the agreement, ending weeks of negotiations that had been flagged as “advanced” since mid-June. Sources close to the transaction value the move at about €10 million, and Correa has signed a five-year deal that will keep him in Monterrey through the 2029–30 season. The 30-year-old arrived in the city on Wednesday to undergo medical tests and is expected to join preseason training immediately. Tigres plan to register the striker for the Liga MX Apertura campaign, which begins on 11 July; his competitive debut is likely to come in the club’s home opener on 19 July against Juárez. Correa leaves Atlético after ten and a half seasons in which he played 469 official matches, scored 88 goals and helped the club win La Liga (2020-21), the UEFA Europa League (2017-18) and the UEFA Super Cup (2018). Internationally, he was part of Argentina’s squad that lifted the 2022 FIFA World Cup and the 2021 Copa América. The deal makes Correa the 18th World Cup winner to appear in Mexico’s top flight and comes almost exactly a decade after Tigres landed André-Pierre Gignac, another transformative signing. Management hopes the latest addition will strengthen an attack that already features veterans such as Gignac and goalkeeper Nahuel Guzmán and reinforce the club’s push for a ninth league title.
