Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan marked the 30th anniversary of the Srebrenica genocide with a pre-recorded video address to the official remembrance ceremony in Bosnia-Herzegovina on 11 July. He said the grief over the massacre of about 8,000 Bosniak men and boys in July 1995 remains “as fresh as yesterday” and reiterated Turkey’s solidarity with the victims’ families. Erdogan criticized the international community for failing to stop the killings three decades ago and warned that a similar indifference is visible today in Gaza. He argued that Israel’s actions against Palestinians constitute “oppression” that the world is “merely watching,” and predicted that those responsible for both atrocities would “sooner or later be held to account before law and history.”
