Six non-governmental organisations, led by the International Federation for Human Rights, filed a criminal complaint in Paris against two French-Israeli soldiers they accuse of war crimes, crimes against humanity and genocide during Israel’s Gaza offensive. The filing, submitted to the crimes-against-humanity unit of the Paris judicial court, alleges that the snipers executed unarmed civilians in Gaza City and Khan Younis between November 2023 and March 2024. The soldiers, identified as Sasha A. and Gabriel B., served in the Israeli paratroopers’ elite “Ghost Unit”. Evidence cited by the NGOs includes video testimony compiled by Palestinian journalist Younis Tirawi showing members of the unit discussing rules of engagement that permitted shooting any adult male in designated combat zones. The complainants rely on the soldiers’ French nationality to invoke the country’s extraterritorial jurisdiction and are seeking a formal judicial investigation. Separately, UN Special Rapporteur Francesca Albanese released a 27-page report asserting that lucrative contracts with more than 60 international firms are helping to sustain what she called Israel’s “genocidal campaign” in Gaza. The document lists arms manufacturers such as Lockheed Martin and Leonardo and technology groups including Alphabet, Amazon, Microsoft and IBM, and urges governments to hold executives criminally liable and order companies to cut ties. Israel dismissed the rapporteur’s findings as defamatory and legally baseless, reiterating that its military operations are acts of self-defence against Hamas. The Paris prosecutor has not yet said whether it will open a formal inquiry into the complaint against the two dual-nationals. Albanese’s report will be presented to the UN Human Rights Council later this week.
