Francesca Albanese, the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the Occupied Palestinian Territories, has released a report accusing over 60 multinational corporations of profiting from and enabling what she describes as Israel's "economy of genocide" in Gaza and the West Bank. The report, titled "From Economy of Occupation to Economy of Genocide," identifies companies across sectors including arms manufacturing, technology, construction, energy, and finance. Notable firms named include Amazon, Microsoft, Google, Airbnb, Caterpillar, and Maersk. Albanese alleges these corporations are complicit in supporting Israeli settlements and military actions that constitute a genocidal campaign against Palestinians. She further accused Israel of using the Gaza conflict as a testing ground for new weapons and surveillance technologies, contributing to an "apocalyptic" humanitarian crisis. Albanese called on the international community to impose a full arms embargo on Israel, suspend all trade agreements and investment relations, and hold accountable those benefiting from the occupation and violence. The report is based on over 200 submissions and was presented at the UN Human Rights Council, where Albanese emphasized that Israel is responsible for one of the cruelest genocides in modern history. The situation in Gaza has resulted in over 200,000 Palestinians killed or injured, according to the rapporteur. She described the ongoing genocide as lucrative for many corporations, highlighting the contradiction of Israel's stock market reaching record highs amid the destruction. The report has prompted calls for sweeping international action to sever economic and financial ties with Israel in response to the humanitarian crisis.
"Responsibility for genocide is principally the Israeli attack on the people of #Palestine and #Gaza. There's no question about that," says Martin Griffiths, former UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs. #GNT https://t.co/LzoLDROTAw
