A report published on the Harvard Dataverse reveals that approximately 377,000 Palestinians have gone missing in Gaza since October 2023 amid the ongoing conflict with Israel, with about half of the missing individuals believed to be children. This disappearance accounts for nearly 17% of Gaza's pre-conflict population, which was around 2.227 million. The Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics (PCBS) confirmed a 10% decline in Gaza's population since the start of the conflict, attributing this decrease to the combined effects of deaths, disappearances, displacement, and reduced birth rates. Official figures indicate that over 57,600 people have been killed during this period. The demographic impact is expected to affect the population structure of Gaza for decades, particularly due to the targeting of children and young people. The population decline from approximately 2.227 million to about 1.85 million reflects the severe humanitarian consequences of the conflict.
