Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Jerusalem welcomes the Lebanese cabinet’s decision to work toward the full disarmament of Hezbollah by the end of 2025. The statement, issued on Monday, described the move as “momentous” for Lebanon’s sovereignty and pledged Israeli support for the effort. Netanyahu added that if the Lebanese Armed Forces begin implementing the plan, Israel will respond with reciprocal measures, including a phased withdrawal of its troops from all five positions it still holds in southern Lebanon. Any drawdown would be coordinated with a U.S-led security mechanism, according to the Israeli leader. Israeli officials said the initiative could help Beirut re-establish state authority and rebuild institutions free of non-state armed influence. A visiting U.S. delegation also praised the Lebanese government’s steps to extend state control and pursue economic reforms.
