Israeli forces have carried out a series of operations in the occupied West Bank since 23 August, beginning with a large-scale raid on the village of Al-Mughayyir, northeast of Ramallah. Local officials said bulldozers, escorted by soldiers, uprooted about 3,000 olive trees—some a century old—while AFP journalists on site confirmed hundreds of trees were removed. The army also searched more than 30 homes, confiscated cash and jewellery and detained residents, including the head of the village council. The Palestinian Prisoners’ Society said at least 14 people were arrested during the three-day sweep. Before dawn on 26 August, Israeli troops moved into central Ramallah, raiding money-exchange shops and confronting demonstrators in Al-Manara Square. The Palestinian Red Crescent reported 18 people wounded by live fire and stun grenades, among them a child and two women, while the official news agency WAFA later put the injury toll at 24. Sky News Arabia said the troops also detained several civilians, including elderly men, and removed equipment from businesses. The Israeli military described the tree-clearing near Al-Mughayyir as a security measure linked to a nearby settler road and has not commented in detail on the subsequent operation in Ramallah. Palestinian officials and rights groups warn the actions are eroding livelihoods in olive-growing communities and inflaming tensions across the West Bank.
