The Israeli military struck the Abu Helou School in the Bureij refugee camp in central Gaza early on 17 July, killing at least five displaced Palestinians and injuring dozens more, according to the official Palestinian news agency WAFA and Anadolu Agency. Local reports said two missiles hit tents that had been erected in and around the United Nations–run girls’ school to shelter families who had fled earlier fighting. Anadolu added that the strike ignited a large fire; the dead and wounded were transferred to Avde Hospital. Video from the scene showed extensive structural damage and panicked civilians fleeing the area. Separately the same day, quadcopter drones reportedly dropped munitions on tents housing displaced people in the Mawasi area west of Khan Younis, wounding several children, local media said.
