Israeli forces intensified operations around Khan Younis in southern Gaza on 10–11 July, striking a building near Nasser Hospital and then launching a sudden ground incursion into the western part of the city. Medical personnel at the hospital said tanks were positioned only metres away as bombardment continued. Tanks and bulldozers drove into the Al-Mawasi area—an enclave the Israeli military had previously labelled a safe zone—razing and setting fire to makeshift tents sheltering displaced families. Residents fled westward under shelling and gunfire, leaving behind destroyed shelters and personal belongings. The armoured column also reached the neighbouring Al-Nemsawi (Turkish) Cemetery. Gaza’s Ministry of Endowments and Religious Affairs accused Israeli troops of exhuming graves and removing human remains, calling the action a flagrant violation of international norms. The ministry said about 40 of Gaza’s 60 cemeteries have been fully or partially wrecked since the war began. More than 1.9 million people—roughly four-fifths of Gaza’s population—have been displaced during the nine-month conflict. The ministry urged international legal bodies to investigate the latest incidents, which follow repeated strikes on sites housing civilians, including schools-turned-shelters in northern Gaza.
