Israeli forces struck a building next to Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis on 9 July, video from the site showed. The airstrike damaged the facility’s immediate surroundings and tore through makeshift tents where displaced Palestinians had been sheltering. Bombardment around the hospital continued for hours, and staff said armoured vehicles closed to within a few metres of the wards, forcing doctors to treat patients under shell fire. “We are closer to death than to life,” one message from the medical team said. On 10 July, tanks and bulldozers pushed into displacement camps in Al-Mawasi and neighbouring western districts of Khan Younis—areas earlier declared safe by the Israeli army—flattening tents, firing shells and setting shelters ablaze before withdrawing after several hours. Civilians fled westward in intense summer heat with few possessions. Casualty figures were not immediately available, but images showed widespread destruction of the camps. The latest assault comes as more than 1.9 million Palestinians—almost the entire population of Gaza—have been uprooted during Israel’s nine-month-old offensive.
