Jordan said its air force carried out five humanitarian airdrops over the Gaza Strip on 2 August, working with the United Arab Emirates, France and Germany. The Jordanian Armed Forces said the mission delivered 36 tons of food and other essentials as part of broader international relief operations aimed at easing severe shortages in the enclave. European governments are stepping up similar efforts. Spain last week dropped 12 tonnes of food using 24 parachutes, while France has begun a multi-day campaign that it says will total about 40 tonnes. Italy, whose foreign minister Antonio Tajani has authorised military participation, plans to start airdrops on 9 August in coordination with Jordan. Berlin acknowledged the additional deliveries but warned that the overall volume of aid reaching Gaza remains “very insufficient.” Humanitarian agencies have repeatedly urged Israel to open more land crossings, arguing that airdrops are costly and cannot match the capacity of truck convoys needed to avert a looming famine.
