Human Rights Watch said on 2 August that Israel is committing war crimes by killing Palestinians seeking food at distribution hubs run by the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation, a private aid scheme backed by Israel and the United States. The group cited repeated shootings at the fortified sites, which have replaced most UN relief channels in the besieged enclave. Gaza’s Health Ministry reports that more than 1,300 people have been shot dead while trying to reach GHF centres since late May. It also says 169 residents, among them 93 children, have died of starvation as the blockade tightens. Hospital occupancy has surged to 240 % at Al-Shifa, 210 % at Al-Rantisi and 300 % at Al-Ahli Arab, underscoring the collapse of the health system. UNRWA, barred from delivering supplies for five months, warns that the humanitarian situation is deteriorating sharply. Jordan airdropped 36 tons of relief on Saturday, while Spain sent 12 tons and France carried out its first airdrop, but UNICEF described the consignments as "a drop in the ocean" for Gaza’s two million inhabitants. International pressure is mounting for unrestricted aid. Australia’s foreign minister has urged Israel to abide by international law and expand food deliveries. In Tel Aviv, U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff said Washington wants the war to end after meeting Israeli hostage families, who complained the talks offered "nothing new." Hamas dismissed his visit to a GHF site as a "staged act" and reiterated demands for a cease-fire, the lifting of the siege and the return of all hostages.
