Al Jazeera has obtained what it says is Israel’s proposed redeployment map for a Gaza cease-fire and hostage deal. The document, shown to negotiators this week, would leave the entire city of Rafah under Israeli occupation and establish a buffer zone up to 3 kilometres deep along much of Gaza’s perimeter. According to the map, the buffer and associated security areas would place roughly 40% of the Gaza Strip under long-term Israeli control. Al Jazeera’s sources and satellite imagery reviewed by the network indicate that more than 700,000 Palestinians would be relocated from Rafah and surrounding districts, with the enclave re-designated as a concentration point for further transfer to Egypt or by sea. The plan, if adopted, would redefine the humanitarian geography of Gaza and is emerging as a key obstacle in the stalled cease-fire talks mediated by regional governments and the United States. Israeli officials have not publicly commented on the veracity of the leaked map.
