The United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights said at least 1,760 Palestinians were killed between 27 May and 13 August while trying to obtain humanitarian aid in Gaza, most of them shot by Israeli forces near distribution points or along convoy routes. The agency called on Israel to halt attacks on civilians and to ensure the safe passage of relief supplies. Gaza’s Health Ministry reported a parallel surge in hunger-related deaths, confirming 11 fatalities—including a child—in the past 24 hours and lifting the toll from malnutrition to 251 since March. Aid agencies warn that prolonged restrictions on food and fuel have pushed much of the enclave toward famine conditions. Israeli ground, air and artillery units widened their offensive over the weekend, concentrating fire on Gaza City’s Al-Zeitoun district. The Palestinian Civil Defense said 22 people were killed on Saturday, nine of them near aid distribution centres, as bombardment that has lasted nearly a week continued to level residential blocks sheltering tens of thousands of civilians. A separate drone strike outside Al-Ahli Hospital in Gaza City late Saturday reportedly killed at least seven people and wounded others. Shelling was also reported near Al-Amal Hospital in Khan Yunis, underscoring the growing risks to medical facilities that are already operating far beyond capacity. Israeli forces simultaneously conducted raids in several West Bank locations, including Jalazon refugee camp, Nablus, Silwad and other villages around Ramallah, detaining residents and sparking clashes. OHCHR warned that the rising death toll, combined with the deepening humanitarian crisis, could amount to grave breaches of international humanitarian law if protections for civilians are not immediately upheld.
