More than 100 international humanitarian organisations, among them Oxfam, Plan International and Médecins Sans Frontières, accused Israel of using a recent law on foreign aid groups to deny or delay the entry of lifesaving supplies into the Gaza Strip. In a joint letter published on 14 August, the groups said dozens of requests to move food, medicine and fuel had been rejected, worsening what they called an avoidable humanitarian emergency. Conditions in Gaza continue to deteriorate. The Gaza Health Ministry reported 51 deaths and 369 injuries from Israeli strikes in the 24-hour period to 15 August, while starvation-related fatalities have risen to 251, including 108 children. Health officials added that hospitals are overwhelmed and that around 550,000 people now face an acute food shortage. UN agencies echoed the alarm on 15 August, warning that “ongoing delays, bottlenecks and interference” at crossing points are impeding large-scale relief efforts. UNRWA’s latest survey found that 21.5 percent of young children in Gaza City are malnourished, and aid workers say the absence of cooking gas for five months has forced families to burn waste to prepare what little food they receive. Meanwhile, fighting has intensified. Medical and civil-defence sources said Israeli forces levelled residential blocks in Gaza City’s Al-Zaytoun and Al-Rimal districts; Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor estimated that 400 homes were demolished in Al-Zaytoun over the past week. Air- and artillery strikes were also reported near aid distribution points in Rafah and the Al-Bureij refugee camp, causing additional civilian casualties.
