The U.S. Navy currently has two Nimitz-class aircraft carriers, USS Nimitz (CVN 68) and USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70), operating in the Middle East within the U.S. Central Command area of responsibility. The USS Carl Vinson has been deployed for nearly eight months and is expected to begin its return journey soon. Meanwhile, the USS Michael Monsoor is present in the western Pacific, a move that follows China's deployment of two aircraft carriers in that region.
