Astros scouting director Cam Pedino said Xavier Neyens controls the zone really well for a HS hitter and has great bat speed. "He's the type of guy who's going to get on base, hit and do a lot of damage." He called him middle-of-the-order potential bat.

The Houston Astros selected Mount Vernon High School infielder Xavier Neyens with the 21st overall pick in the 2025 Major League Baseball Draft on Sunday night. Listed at 6-foot-4, the 18-year-old left-handed hitter ranked No. 25 overall and No. 10 among high-school prospects by MLB.com. He batted .456 with eight home runs, 27 RBIs and a .689 on-base percentage in his senior season while also touching 95 mph as a closer. Astros scouting director Cam Pedino said Neyens “controls the zone really well for a high-school hitter,” praising his bat speed and projecting him as a potential middle-of-the-order run producer. Though drafted as a shortstop, most evaluators expect him to move to third base in the professional ranks. Neyens had committed to play at Oregon State, but the No. 21 pick carries an estimated slot value of $3.38 million, positioning Houston well to persuade the Pacific Northwest standout to begin his pro career immediately.
