The Toronto Blue Jays activated infielder Andrés Giménez from the 10-day injured list and inserted him into Tuesday night’s lineup against the Chicago Cubs at Rogers Centre. To clear a roster spot, the club designated infielder Buddy Kennedy for assignment. Toronto enters the series with the best record in the American League East. Chicago countered by reinstating catcher Miguel Amaya and right-hander Javier Assad from the 60-day injured list. Assad, who owns a 14-11 record and 3.40 ERA over 70 major-league appearances, is slated to start the opener. Amaya had been sidelined since May 25 with an oblique strain after hitting .280 with four home runs and 25 RBIs in 27 games. The Cubs optioned right-hander Nate Pearson to Triple-A Iowa and designated infielder Jon Berti for assignment to accommodate the moves.
