Chicago Cubs catcher Miguel Amaya was carted from the field Wednesday night after spraining his left ankle while beating out an infield single in the eighth inning of a 4–1 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays at Rogers Centre. X-rays were negative, but manager Craig Counsell said the 26-year-old is expected to go back on the injured list, calling the setback “bad luck.” The incident came barely 24 hours after Amaya was activated from the 60-day injured list following a left oblique strain that had sidelined him since May 25. He had been batting .280 with four home runs and 25 RBIs in 27 games before the latest injury. Rookie right-hander Cade Horton carried a no-hitter into the sixth inning and struck out a career-high eight to earn the win, while Michael Busch and Matt Shaw supplied home runs for Chicago. With Amaya unavailable, the Cubs plan to promote 21-year-old outfielder Owen Caissie, their No. 1 prospect and MLB Pipeline’s No. 45 overall, for his major-league debut in Thursday’s series finale against Max Scherzer.
