The Chicago Cubs are promoting outfielder Owen Caissie, the organization’s top prospect and the No. 45 player on MLB Pipeline’s overall list, for Thursday’s series finale against the Toronto Blue Jays in Toronto. The 22-year-old Burlington, Ontario native is expected to make his major-league debut in front of a hometown crowd. Caissie earns the call-up after a strong season at Triple-A Iowa, where he posted a .292/.393/.573 slash line with 22 home runs, 26 doubles and a .966 OPS over 92 games. His arrival fills a roster spot opened when catcher Miguel Amaya was placed on the injured list with a sprained left ankle suffered in Wednesday’s 4–1 win over Toronto. President of baseball operations Jed Hoyer said the club is shifting toward fielding “the best 26” players as it pushes for a postseason berth; Chicago currently holds the National League’s top wild-card position. Caissie was acquired from San Diego in the 2020 Yu Darvish trade and has reduced his strikeout rate to 18.6% since July, while continuing to demonstrate one of the minors’ premier left-handed power profiles.

With a sweet left-handed swing and one of the best power profiles in the minor leagues, Caissie has long been one of the top Canadian prospects. He's now set to join the Cubs for a potential debut in his home country against the Blue Jays. (@Worden_Zach) https://t.co/SuhctJOGry
