Los Angeles Dodgers first baseman Freddie Freeman received an extended standing ovation at Truist Park on Tuesday night as he started for the National League in the 2025 MLB All-Star Game, his first appearance in Atlanta as an All-Star since leaving the Braves. Freeman, who spent 12 seasons with Atlanta and helped the club win the 2021 World Series, acknowledged before the game that returning to his former home remains “special” and said he had marked the All-Star date on his calendar once the venue was announced. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts added that the visit clearly mattered to the 35-year-old infielder. The crowd rose again in the second inning when National League manager Dave Roberts substituted Pete Alonso for Freeman, giving the six-time All-Star time to hug teammates as he exited. The reception capped another emotional Atlanta homecoming for the two-time World Series champion, now in his fourth season with Los Angeles.
