Major League Baseball has appointed Hall of Fame manager Joe Torre as an honorary coach for the American League team at the All-Star Game scheduled for 15 July at Truist Park in Atlanta. Torre will join Yankees manager Aaron Boone and Guardians skipper Stephen Vogt on the AL coaching staff, which also includes Boone’s regular New York assistants. Torre, 84, ranks fifth on MLB’s managerial wins list with 2,326 victories and guided the Yankees to four World Series championships from 1996 to 2000. Now a special assistant to Commissioner Rob Manfred, he returns to uniform in a city where he once starred and later managed for the Braves. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts will lead the National League squad and has invited Braves manager Brian Snitker and first-year Marlins manager Clayton McCullough to serve as honorary coaches. MLB confirmed the full coaching rosters on 17 June. When play began in Atlanta, Torre drew an ovation by taking the mound to make a pitching change for the American League, marking a nostalgic on-field cameo nearly 15 years after his last managerial season.
Managers Aaron Boone and Dave Roberts agree. "It's so good. Thank you, baseball, for fixing that little snafu we had there for a few years." "So good." #MLB #AllStarGame https://t.co/VExCZq6owb https://t.co/MbOjhFHSFc
