Trevor Story delivered a bases-loaded single in the bottom of the ninth inning to give the Boston Red Sox a 2–1 victory over the Miami Marlins on Friday night at Fenway Park. The walk-off, Boston’s 10th of the season, came before a sellout crowd of 36,854 and required only the club’s third hit of the game. Miami ace Sandy Alcantara dominated early, retiring the first 12 batters on 40 pitches and finishing with seven strikeouts over six innings of two-hit, one-run ball. Boston starter Lucas Giolito matched him, limiting Miami to one run over 6⅔ innings, while Aroldis Chapman set down the side in order in the top of the ninth to earn the win and lower his ERA to 1.15. In the decisive frame, rookie Josh Simpson issued consecutive walks to Roman Anthony and Alex Bregman, then hit Jarren Duran to load the bases. Reliever Calvin Faucher’s second pitch was grounded through the right side by Story, scoring Anthony and sealing Boston’s eighth win in its last nine home games.
