Google's Transformers in AI Tied to Ted Chiang's 'Arrival'

The Transformer architecture, a foundational breakthrough in artificial intelligence powering technologies like ChatGPT and protein folding, was reportedly inspired by the alien communication style depicted in the movie 'Arrival.' The movie, directed by Denis Villeneuve, is based on Ted Chiang's short story 'Story of Your Life.' Chiang, known for his critical stance on AI, created a narrative featuring a symbolic alien language that some claim influenced Google's invention of Transformers, which are central to modern generative AI models.
