Two major wildfires have recently impacted Southern California, prompting evacuations and road closures. The Lake Fire ignited near Silverwood Lake in San Bernardino County on June 28, 2025, rapidly expanding to 478 acres with 10% containment as of June 29. The fire prompted evacuation orders south of State Route 138 toward Cajon Pass and led to the closure of Highway 138 from Summit to Old Mill and Interstate 15. The incident is under unified command involving CAL FIRE, San Bernardino National Forest, San Bernardino County Fire, and the San Bernardino County Sheriff. Fire crews are actively working both on the ground and in the air to contain the blaze. Separately, in Riverside County near the community of Aguanga, two brush fires that broke out within a mile of each other merged into the Dale Fire on July 16, 2025. The combined fire quickly expanded to at least 331 acres, destroying at least two structures, possibly vacant outbuildings, and prompting evacuation orders and highway closures. Firefighters continue to respond to the Dale Fire as it threatens the southern Riverside County area.
