A ruptured water main on a hillside near 3100 South by I-215 in Holladay, Utah, saturated the slope and triggered a rock-and-mudslide shortly after 8 p.m. Tuesday. The slide poured into the basement of one house and damaged the exteriors of two neighbouring properties, according to Unified Fire Authority spokesperson Kelly Bird. All occupants of the three homes, located near Silver Hawk Drive, were evacuated and no injuries were reported. Emergency crews shut off the water line and built temporary dikes to halt further mud flow. City workers began repairs and cleanup overnight; authorities said the hillside now poses no additional slide risk but warned that remediation and property restoration will take several days.
