Five-time NBA All-Star John Wall said on Instagram Tuesday that he is retiring from basketball, ending an 11-season career that began when the Washington Wizards selected him first overall in the 2010 draft. Wall, 34, spent a decade in Washington before brief stints with the Houston Rockets and Los Angeles Clippers. He was named to the All-NBA Third Team in 2017, won the Slam Dunk Contest in 2014 and finishes as the Wizards’ franchise leader in steals and assists per game. Across 647 regular-season games the Kentucky product averaged 18.7 points, 8.9 assists and 4.2 rebounds. Wall had not played since January 2023 while managing a series of injuries, and said in his announcement that he “gave this game everything I had.”
