The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill said it has extended Athletic Director Bubba Cunningham’s contract by two years, keeping him in the post through July 2029. At the same time, the school named Roush Fenway Keselowski Racing president Steve Newmark as executive associate athletic director and athletic-director-in-waiting. Newmark will assume the top job in the summer of 2026, while Cunningham will move into a senior adviser role, the university said. Newmark will leave the NASCAR team presidency to begin working alongside Cunningham during the transition, giving the Atlantic Coast Conference institution a succession plan that stretches over the next year and a half.
