The Washington Commanders have unveiled a burgundy-and-gold “Super Bowl Era” alternate uniform that closely mirrors the jerseys and helmets the franchise wore during its four Super Bowl appearances between 1982 and 1991. Owner Josh Harris, whose sports portfolio was recently valued at $14.6 billion, has pushed to reconnect the club with its traditional colors, replacing the previous redesign that had drawn mixed reviews. While the throwback look is officially classified as an alternate, multiple team insiders and reporters said the organization is weighing whether to adopt it as the primary uniform as early as the 2026 season. A club spokesperson said only that Washington will “continue to evaluate” future design options. At ESPN Bet, the Commanders remain +2000 to win next season’s NFL title. The New Orleans Saints also refreshed their appearance, introducing a white alternate helmet that features the club’s gold fleur-de-lis logo and black speckled detailing. The new lid replaces the black alternate helmet the Saints have worn since 2022, a look with which the team has yet to record a victory. Both unveilings are part of a broader wave of alternate uniforms and helmets the NFL is permitting clubs to use up to four times per season.
