Dallas Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones said stalled contract talks with All-Pro linebacker Micah Parsons trace back to a profane exchange with Parsons’ agent, David Mulugheta. In interviews published Thursday, including one on former receiver Michael Irvin’s podcast, Jones recounted that when the team tried to send formal terms to the agent in March, Mulugheta told club negotiators to “stick it up our ass.” Jones said he and Parsons had already agreed on the length, total value and guarantees of a new deal that would make the 2021 Defensive Rookie of the Year the highest-paid non-quarterback in the league. Parsons, however, has continued a training-camp “hold-in” while entering the final season of his rookie contract, a fifth-year option worth about $24 million, and could reach unrestricted free agency in 2026 if no agreement is reached. With two weeks remaining before the regular-season opener, Jones insisted he still expects Parsons to be on the field in Week 1 but acknowledged the standoff has become a public distraction. The owner simultaneously defended a newly released Netflix docuseries that highlights the Cowboys’ marketing success despite a 29-year championship drought, pointing out that other franchises such as the Buffalo Bills have gone even longer without a Super Bowl win.
Somebody ask Michael Irvin if he knows Jimmy Johnson had to be talked out of trading Michael when Jimmy first took over in Dallas.
As I keep saying, Jerry already offered Micah a ridiculous amount of money -- actually more guaranteed money than all but 6 QBs. But Micah wants his agent to do all the negotiating, so the clock ticks. I still assume Jerry will get this done Monday or Tuesday, as usual.
JIMMY JOHNSON ONCE TRIED TO BAN ME FROM ALL COWBOY FACILITIES. AND JERRY JONES, WITH JIMMY LOOKING ON, SHOOK MY HAND AND SAID, "AS LONG AS I OWN THIS TEAM, YOU WILL BE WELCOME HERE." https://t.co/OiZIA7NG1i
