Dallas Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer said he will meet All-Pro edge rusher Micah Parsons on Sunday to discuss the player’s conduct during Friday’s pre-season win over the Atlanta Falcons. Parsons, who has not taken the field this summer because of a contract dispute, was the only Cowboy on the sideline without a jersey and was photographed lying on a training table during the third quarter. The 26-year-old has staged a so-called “hold-in” since early August, a tactic that keeps him present but not practicing while talks on a long-term extension remain stalled. Parsons has also asked to be traded and scrubbed team references from his social-media accounts. An MRI taken Friday showed no major back issues, and Schottenheimer said he expects the defender to be ready for the Sept. 4 opener in Philadelphia. Parsons is entering the final season of his rookie agreement, a four-year, $17.1 million deal that the Cowboys extended with a $24.007 million fifth-year option. Jerry Jones said the club’s latest proposal would make Parsons the NFL’s highest-paid non-quarterback, but the player’s agent has yet to engage, according to the owner. The Cowboys can still control Parsons through at least the 2027 season via successive franchise tags. A four-time Pro Bowl and two-time first-team All-Pro selection since being drafted 12th overall in 2021, Parsons is central to Dallas’s defense. His continuing standoff, and Schottenheimer’s push for clarity on his behaviour, have added another layer of uncertainty ahead of the Cowboys’ bid to return to the playoffs.
