The Miami Dolphins and Chicago Bears opened their 2025 preseason schedules with a 24-24 draw at Soldier Field, a result that doubled as the head-coaching debut of Chicago’s Ben Johnson and the first preseason-opener appearance for Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa since 2021. Tagovailoa engineered a 15-play opening drive, completing 5 of 6 passes for 27 yards before yielding to backups. Zach Wilson followed with 96 passing yards on 5-of-9 attempts and rookie Quinn Ewers added 91 yards on 5-of-18, guiding Miami to 10 fourth-quarter points. Veteran kicker Jason Sanders leveled the contest with a 56-yard field goal with 6:22 remaining. Chicago rested top draft pick Caleb Williams, turning instead to Tyson Bagent, who went 13-of-19 for 103 yards, a touchdown and an interception, and to Case Keenum, whose two second-half scoring passes included a 14-yard strike to Jahdae Walker for a late 24-21 lead. Cairo Santos connected from 57 yards just before halftime, while rookie defensive end Austin Booker registered three of the Bears’ six sacks, including a strip-sack that set up a score. Miami’s Alexander Mattison exited with a knee injury, and Bears rookie safety Major Burns also left with a knee issue; both did not return. The Dolphins, who had quelled a much-publicized practice scuffle earlier in the week, travel to Detroit for joint sessions with the Lions, while the Bears prepare for a joint practice with Buffalo ahead of their next exhibition.
