Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love will undergo surgery this week to repair ligament damage in his left thumb, general manager Brian Gutekunst told reporters on Tuesday. Love injured the thumb when it struck an opposing helmet during the Packers’ preseason opener on 9 August. Despite the setback, Gutekunst said the club expects the 26-year-old to resume practice as early as next week and start the regular-season opener on 7 September against the Detroit Lions. Love, who signed a four-year, $220 million extension in June 2024, missed two games last season with a knee injury but still finished ninth among qualifying quarterbacks in expected points added per play. Backup Malik Willis would take first-team snaps if Love is limited during the remainder of the preseason.
