New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara’s cameo on the baseball diamond did not go according to plan. Invited to throw the ceremonial first pitch before the Chicago Cubs–St. Louis Cardinals game at Wrigley Field on 5 July, the 29-year-old hurled the ball well outside the strike zone—barely traveling the full distance to home plate and skirting the left-handed batter’s box. Dissatisfied, Kamara immediately asked the Cubs’ mascot, Clark, for the ball back and delivered a second attempt that reached the plate cleanly, drawing a mix of boos and applause from the crowd. The NFL star, who logged 950 rushing yards, 68 receptions and eight total touchdowns for the Saints last season, is expected to be a focal point of New Orleans’ offense when training camp opens later this month.
