This year, Sony’s coach headsets will be calling plays from the NFL sidelines https://t.co/e4W2KTxxun
Sony Electronics will supply new noise-canceling communication headsets to coaches across all 32 National Football League teams starting with the 2025 season, the company said Monday. The devices are scheduled to debut at the Pro Football Hall of Fame Game on July 31 and will remain standard equipment throughout preseason and regular-season play. Developed in tandem with league officials and coaching staffs, the wired headsets borrow active-noise-cancellation technology from Sony’s WH-1000XM6 consumer headphones and are tuned to handle stadium volumes exceeding 100 decibels. They offer one- or two-earcup options, a boom microphone that mutes when flipped up, and ruggedized construction designed to survive rain, sweat, extreme temperatures and sideline drops. The units connect over a private LTE network installed in every NFL venue through a partnership with Verizon, aiming to provide clearer, more reliable play-calling. The project extends Sony’s broader collaboration with the league on officiating and broadcast technologies first showcased during this year’s CES.
