Alhaji Aminu Dantata, a renowned Nigerian businessman, philanthropist, and elder statesman, passed away at the age of 94 on June 28, 2025, in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Dantata was recognized as a patriarch of industry and a prominent figure in Nigeria's business community, leaving behind a legacy praised by national leaders including President Bola Tinubu, former President Muhammadu Buhari, Vice-President Kashim Shettima, and opposition leader Atiku Abubakar. The Northern Governors and other political figures also expressed their condolences, highlighting his impact on Nigeria's economic and philanthropic sectors. Dantata was an uncle to Africa's richest man, Aliko Dangote, and is survived by three wives, 21 children, and 121 grandchildren. His body was transported from Abu Dhabi to Madinah, Saudi Arabia, where his funeral rites are being held. A high-level delegation from the Nigerian Federal Government, including the Defence Minister, Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin, and former APC National Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje, traveled to Saudi Arabia to participate in the burial ceremonies. The funeral was initially postponed due to Saudi regulations and delays in the arrival of the corpse but proceeded after the body arrived in Madinah. The Governor of Kano State, Abba Kabir Yusuf, and the dethroned Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, also attended the funeral. The Northern Elders Forum described Dantata's death as a monumental loss to Nigeria.
