Nigeria’s women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, returned to Abuja on Monday after defeating Mali 78-64 in Abidjan to clinch the 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket — their seventh continental crown and fifth in a row. The squad was received at the presidential villa by Vice President Kashim Shettima, standing in for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, alongside First Lady Oluremi Tinubu and other senior officials. During the reception, Tinubu announced national honours for all players and coaching staff. Each player will receive a cash reward of $100,000, while members of the technical crew are to get $50,000 apiece. The gesture mirrors a similar package extended last week to the Super Falcons football team after their Women’s Africa Cup of Nations triumph.
