Following Harambee Stars' 1-0 victory over DR Congo in their 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) opener at Kasarani, Kenyan President William Ruto rewarded each of the 27 players and 15 technical bench members with 1 million Kenyan shillings (approximately Sh42 million total). The win was witnessed by President Ruto, opposition leader Raila Odinga, and other officials. Earlier, Ruto had promised a 600 million shilling reward if the team won the tournament. In addition to the monetary reward, Harambee Stars players appealed to President Ruto for allocation of Affordable Housing Units, a request he pledged to consider. The payments were confirmed by State House Kenya, marking the players as new millionaires following the fulfillment of the president's promise.
