Unidentified gunmen abducted Assistant Commissioner of Ziarat, Afzal Baqi, and his 16-year-old son, Bilal, while the family was picnicking in Zizri Valley on Sunday, local officials said. The assailants released the commissioner’s driver and gunman a short distance away and set fire to the official vehicle before fleeing with the two hostages. Deputy Commissioner Zakaullah Durrani told reporters the kidnappers are believed to have moved toward the Khilafat Mountain range. Security forces have sealed entry and exit routes and launched a search operation across the valley. No group has claimed responsibility and the authorities have not disclosed any ransom demands. The incident is the second kidnapping of a senior civil servant in Balochistan in less than three months; Assistant Commissioner Tump, Muhammad Hanif Noorzai, was abducted on 4 June. Provincial officials say security protocols for field officers are under review.
